You're doing so much more than dreaming!

Want to keep your brain sharp? Hit the sack. Poor sleep quality may lead to Alzheimer’s disease, according to new research from Johns Hopkins University.

People who lacked sufficient shuteye also had greater deposits of B-Amyloid—a plaque associated with Alzheimer’s—in their brains. The reason: During sleep, your brain actually cleans its self, possibly removing the plaques that may lead to disease, says Murray Flaster, M.D, Ph.D.

But researchers still don’t know if a lack of sleep actually causes plaques to accumulate. To play it safe, Dr. Flaster recommends seeing your M.D. if you regularly wake up groggy or report restless sleep.
