Acne can really mar your confidence and harm your skin. Did you know that by simply making some adjustments to your diet, you can prevent having acne? We give you a list of food items that you should stay away from if you have acne.

1. Sugar

Indulging in a lot of sugary treats can cause breakouts. They lead to a surge in insulin, which in turn makes you more prone to having clogged pores. If you have a sweet tooth, then you should stick to things that are naturally sweet like sweet potatoes or cantaloupe. They are also a great source of beta-carotene which is a blemish-buster.

2. Dairy

If your diet is full of cheese, glasses of milk, or creamy desserts, then you are more likely to have pimples. However, since calcium is important for a healthy skin, you can get your daily dose of calcium from green vegetables such as collard greens, broccoli, kale, and soy.

3. Caffeine

Black coffee can trigger acne as it can cause hormonal imbalance and body stress. If you are fighting acne, then it is best to stay away from caffeine. Instead, stick to herbal tea or caffeine-free herbal coffee like Teeccino.

4. Processed/Refined Foods

When dealing with acne, it is best to stick to fresh, whole, and organic foods which are gluten and dairy-free. If your food items are high on the glycemic index, salty and/or glutenous, it can affect your hormone and blood sugar levels. They can lead to a surge in insulin and cause acne-causing bacteria build-up. So, stay away from junk food and ditch those fries.

5. Fast food

If your diet is rich in greasy fast food, then you are more likely to have inflammation in the body. It is this inflammation that may cause pimples. So, if you are headed to a fast-food restaurant, try sticking to the healthier option like the salad.

6. Alcohol

There are various studies that show that toxins like tobacco and alcohol have a link with acne. So, if you are a regular smoker or are in the habit of drinking excessive alcohol, then it would be all the more difficult for you to fight acne.
