My Day on a Plate: Emma Bridgewater, designer

The pottery designer Emma Bridgewater reveals her daily diet, and the snacks she can't resist

6.30am Always up early on the day of a catalogue shoot. Cup of tea and a gingernut biscuit while planning the shots, which take place in our studio at home.

8am When the photographer arrives I snarf down some scrambled egg (from our chickens) and toasted home-made bread, with a coffee.

9am Start on the first shot – a breakfast scene featuring our pottery. It's very tempting to snack on the props.

12.30pm Everyone sits down for lunch – baked potatoes with cheese and chutney.

1pm Plunge back into the shoot. I drink lots of cups of tea (but don't tend to finish them all), and everyone has a slice of the cake we're photographing.

5pm When the light fades we call it a day. Check the photos on the computer over another cup of tea and a biscuit. Plan the next day's shots.

7pm Supper is always a meat-and-two-veg affair – lamb chops with greens from the garden – with salad instead of pudding. Dog walk then a cup of tea before bed.

Emma's eating plan isn't quite as balanced as I'd like. A couple of fruit snacks would be a good start to putting things right. It could be a little short on calcium too, but if she drinks milky tea she may just be getting enough. Baked potatoes are fine for lunch, though adding some beans or salad to the cheese would be another way she could top up her veg intake.
